blade width

Frank thanks for the suggestion on making the blade shorter, I hadn't thought of it. The cedar shaft is laminated, it's 2 boards laminated, I used the examples found at http://dbeweb.com/kayak/pages/paddle.html. I routered out the core with a 1/2 in round over. So what a normal blade width, if there is such a thing?
