Surform planes are my tool of choice: the one with the curved 2" plade and plstic handle. I can hack off all the wires and the surounding little epoxy gobs in 15 minutes. Just be careful to hold the plane level on the wood so the sides don't gouge.

I'm far to lazy to pull my wires, hence I have to carry the extra copper for the life of the boat. Depressing.
