Microballoons are for fairing, and would likely weaken the fillets. Probably better to make smaller, neater fillets using masking tape and a spreader shaped to the desired fillet radius.

I posted a note on 7/20 about lighter shear clamp stock and nails. I also use 4 oz glass when I feel I can get away with it, as well as very thin fill coats of epoxy, brass rub strips instead of building up the keel with glass, dynel, cast iron or whatever, and I ususally paint the boats a shade of white, which seems to cover in less coats. All adds up to boats that are several lbs. lighter then the specs., which are several lbs. lighter than most folks boats.
