Strip canoes are basically fiberglass canoes. The wood only accounts for a small percentage of the hull strength. The wood spaces out the two layers of 'glass. This makes the hull much stiffer than if the 'glass layers were in direct contact. The wood is your mold. The wood makes the boat look nice. The wood just going along for the ride. You need 'glass inside and out. Charlie
