Smooth paint?

So I just wet sanded my canoe for the first time after coat 5 of the brightside paint I've been spraying on. Its deff. a learn as you go process as I accedentially took the paint completely off on a few of the corners and such.

In any event while I was wet sanding with 320 I was disapointed that afterwards the finish while smooth was not even close to the pre paint finish I had with 220 grit paper.

Will it get smoother as I go?

I should note that I'm a little obsessed with getting it as slick as possible... don't really know why *shrugs*
