I have a yellow Ches-16, done the first time in 3-4 coats. Looked just fine. I can't understand why Joe is up to 15 coats and counting. Some 0000 (count the zeros) steel wool or 600 grit paper might finish it off.
However, I agree with Steve C, it is time to get on the water. I re-painted all the chips and scrapes after the first year, not being at all fussy the second time around. It look just fine on the water --- where it belongs!
