Rudder

Posted by Ice-Phil on Jul 3, 2004

One last thing which I think is interesting, the rudder is forward near the bow. Years ago all iceboats were 'rear steerers'. The steering runner was moved from the stern to the bow along with moving the mast and runner plank aft. I don't understand why kayak rudders are aft. On power boats you depend on prop wash going past the rudder but on a kayak, why?
