Ted Henry has some very good information on his web site (Metakrome) that details the various pros & cons of each system (he has used variations of the bungees, magnets, strap hold downs etc. on several different kayaks). He does mention that he changed out his wife's kayak's hatches away from the hidden bungee system to a magnetic system due to her being annoyed with it and not liking the way it worked. He also has a lot of other very interesting information on some tests he has done on various kinds of epoxy hardness, and glassing. And best of all, has some beautiful photos of his kayaks and paddling trips. Also links to sites that detail how to make the various kinds of hatch closures.
