Windsurfer sails reef by coming back to the shack and finding a smaller sail. The balogh is a more refined concept that allows you to easily reef on the water and do what you started out to do...keep sailing. This is important in tender, low freeboard boats like canoes/kayaks. When the sailboarders are headed back to the house a good balogh sailor is starting to enjoy the elbow room.

The Balogh sail is part of a rigging system that maximizes the ease of use, and seaworthy installation. They only look similar, the difference is in the details. SB
