Lasz, I think you already got it. Not everyone thoroughly understands the engineering principles behind using wood and fiberglass together. When I saw those instrux, I just ignored 'em and went about my business of supplying relatively generous fillets to help the cross-pieces adhere to the inside of the curved hatch cover. No fiberglass on my plywood hatch covers, and no problems so far either. That's my story and I stick to it.
