I'm surprised the sander didn't take off and blaze a trail along the floor! You definitely got lucky.

And you bought a quality sander. I mean it ran for who knows how long, got who knows how hot and did just fine. At some point it must have shed itself of the sandpaper and just went to town using only the base. (Coincidently I once sanded mine chines using the ROS without any sandpaper at all).

Enlighten us about the hole in your deck, sounds like you had some fun (and maybe some shiner!)
