If you want to really become one with the wood, use your teeth for all rip cuts.

But I will have to try your angle iron idea next time. I am not always that mushy about the handtool idea.

I don't have any aluminum, but I saved some steel angle iron from a discarded sofa bed, so I will give it a try.

One thing I did learn from watching a pro carpenter: to make some quick rip cuts in plywood with the circular saw, just throw the plywood on the lawn and cut away! Seems simple, but I can't tell you how many times I put off doing something because the workbench was too cluttered to do some rip-sawing.
