SB, I have heard that oak and epoxy have no fondness for each other, they don't bond well. I read some Birch has a tendancy to split. Enough epoxy may over come the tendancy though (?).I am on the West Coast, most lumber yards charge a fee for cuts here. Some will give you the first one or two, others charge for every thing. Check the phone book for places that sell "hardwoods", they often have veneers that make onlays. You could even use the good wood as the exterior ply of a home laminate job. RogerJ
