add them to flush hatch?

Posted by Dennis Rioux on Jun 17, 2004

I am quite interested in this thread for the obvious reasons. I am installing the flush hatches a la CLC which means a triple thickness ring (2 sill spacers and the sill itself) around the hatch opening. The instructions do not indicate that bowed stiffeners across the beam of the kayak are required (I was going cut them up for through-deck webbing loops). Do you think I should install them anyway or leave them off? I suppose they could be added at any point, but I would rather not crack the rear deck if it can be avoided. I put the hatch opening 12" beyond the rear bulkhead if that matters. Thanks for your input.
