Heat Gun

Posted by AllanG on Jun 15, 2004

I read somewhere that a heat gun is OK too as long as the timber hasn't been kiln dried, but I haven't tried it.

Steam bending gets more interesting with thicker timber/ply. I built a Tiger Moth pedalplane a while back (showcase.netins.net/web/pedalplane/planes.htm) and had to form a dihedral in the wings (3/8 ply) by steam bending. Even with a channel routed along the bend line there was steam coming from places other than the iron.
