And I say this because I believe any kayaker ought to get in the water at some point and find out what it takes to rescue his or her self." --you can make your boat the backup. A combination of float bags, closed cell foam, and a Type IV (throwable seat) make the boat a floating source of many options. It is easier to spot if someone is searching and gives me better chances with hypothermia-I can crawl up onto it. Just swamp it to determine how much floatation is enough. SB
