I've got to refinish my hatches on the underside and assume that I will destroy the existing gasket material that came with my CH17 kit. I have been so impressed with the gasket material that CLC provided, that I am ordering more from them. CLC sells a 10' roll (enough to do two hatches) for only $4.50. With shippping, it comes to $10.50.

BTW, the reason I have to refinish the underside of my hatches is because I was too numb (Maine slang for "stupid") to take the hatches off my kayak while letting it sit all winter upsidedown and uncovered. Water pooled on the hatch covers and ruined the varnish and epoxy resulting in water getting into the plywood. I believe the water came from condensation inside the boat rather than from the outside getting past the gaskets.
