Glass weave mess

In glassing my hull, I tried a little too hard to put a "protector" at the stern. In short, the cloth didnt seem to take up the epoxy and we have an ugly white-ish thing down there that probably will provide some protection but only if I dont kick it too hard. Ive got the deck on and am nearing the sand-o-rama. What shall I do -I'd like a bright finish. Im not proud of this glaring thing, but at least its on the tailing end... Grind/Sand it down and re-apply?
