Re: 80-grit sanding

On the other extreme: i have found 30-grit sanding belts (cut and glued to various shaped blocks) very useful for fast cutting, as long as I make sure they never touch wood. Blending the edge of glass tape comes to mind. No matter what the sanding task, if I stop and look at the workpiece after about 8 reps and don't seem to be at least half-way finished demolishing the hill or valley, I switch to a coarser grit.
