You could do as Mac suggested, but if you sand the seams, you may find the glass/epoxy will then be paper-thin over the voids. Then it may be better to cut out the thin areas with a chisel and refill with epoxy/microballoons (if painting) or epoxy/cabosil/wood flour (if not).
That selvedge on the 3" seam tape is a PITA, and I stopped using it. I use 2", 6 oz. tape or 9 oz. cloth, cut into strips. Cheaper, better and, in the end, no more time consuming.
