Northwest Rivers Systems makes mounts for racks called Quik-N-Easy. You fabricate your own cross bars with pipe or lumber. I just built a rack with their mounts using cedar 2x3 cross bars with custom wooden V-blocks covered with minicell foam. The racks are VERY solid on my Volvo wagon. If you have rain gutters on the cab of your truck they are an easy solution. Since it is unlikely that the Leer cap has rain gutters, NRS makes stell tabs that you can attach to the cap so you can use their mounts. I got mine at www.altrec.com - here's the link for the mounts:

I happen to have my boat on the car at the office (snuck out onto the Shrewsbury River (Oceanport NJ) this morning before coming to the office). Here's a an overview of the rig. I'll post a detail of the mount in the next message, since I only know how to post only one picture at a time.

This rack cost me about $80.00 to make.

By the way, I also like a long bar spread because I also carry a CLC Triple. The Volvo pictured has a 75 inch bar spread. However, the former owner of my Triple carried it on a minivan with a 4 foot bar spread without any problems, so you should be OK with 5 foot spread on the cap, if you decide to go that route.
