Tiny Bubbles

I applied my third coat of varnish yesterday afternoon in my garage. Applied just like the first two with a sponge brush in a criss-cross pattern like John does in the video. When I checked it last night, the surface was dry and full of tiny bubbles. Any idea why this occurred? It was in the mid-60's here in No. VA yesterday, and when I completed the coat, I closed up the garage to keep out errant bits of crud and corruption.

Does the varnish outgas similar to the epoxy clear coats? Looks like a fourth coat in my future.
