I in agreement with Steve, that it doesn't matter for the most part - almost all your fillets get covered with glass tape. It's not a bad idea, however, for the fillets that don't get taped.

My fillets were definitely rough. I'll add cab-o-sil next time - and will perhaps try an idea like yours, if the peanut gallery votes in favor.
