before paint over nails

Something just occured to me as I was admiring my almost finished chesapeake 17. If you paint on to the deck over the nail line, when it is time to screw the webing into the shear clamp for the hatches, you will not be able to see the nails to avoid screwing into one of them. I had a look, and sure enough, there were a few nails right where I would likely want to put a screw. I used the back of one of the plan sheets to drape over the boat and mark where the nails are. You need to tape the sheet on and take a measurement somewhere to insure it goes in the same spot after it is painted. something some might want to think about.
