oh,,the Wilderness Systems product descriptions? They're 50% marketing hype. The erectible Phase3 seat back doesn't belong in a sea kayak and the thigh brace "tabs" in the Cape Horn are pretty useless without chunks of minicell to provide some grip (imagine your WR180 with flat minicell and not wedge shaped minicell. Wilderness Systems has spent mondo bucks on new marketing in the last three years so that increases the quantity of hype requiring filters. So the Cape Horns could be used in "open oceans" as much as a lot of other designs out there. The term "multichine" is kind of gobbledygook in that context to differentiate the Cape Horns from the Tempests.
