Eastpot pram/MC 16.5 spar

Making a sail from a kit for the MC 16.5, which has the same sail as the Eastport Pram. My question is, what are the dimensions of the spars? I called CLC and they advised using 1.5" x 3/4" spruce, about 7" long. The 3/4" seems just a bit light? Any advice?
