I had a crooked stern that made my yak veer to port after a few strokes. Looking down the keel when it was upside down - there it was, a little bit o' twist.

So I sanded and even shimmed a bit - reglassed, painted all gone - all straight. You have to understand, Ive read that there are even production fiberglass kayaks that have this twist!!!!! And the ones that dont probably had the "mothership" sanded and shimmed straight. It doesnt happen to all kayaks - but it is a common "problem", and again, one that some manufacturers permanize in fiberglass - unbelievably.

On the whole, kayak builders - I think - go overboard in perfecting their craft and fretting the the minor stuff. My first test run in my WR180 had more drips of epoxy on the hull then a zebra has stripes - but it went like the wind when I paddled. After sanding its belly smooth I have to confess, I dont notice one bit of speed improvement.

Kayak builders often need to take a chill pill.
