Hybrid Deck/Interior question

OK, so we've about to start on the deck of our hybrid Mill Creek 16.5. My current plan is to do the deck, but before gluing it on take that opportunity to finish some steps we skipped (gluing the seat chocks down, etc.) clean up the interior, prime and paint. I don't think that's the sequence in the actual plans but seems a lot easier to me. Any reason I shouldn't do that? Wanted to get some time in on the strip laying before my build partner's gone. Figure I can do the easy stuff later.
