Piantedosi Oars, rowingrigs.com
I'd advise caution dealing with Gary Piantedosi of Piantedosi Oars. I ordered a Scout rig rowing frame and oars in April. In May he couldn't give any idea as to when he'd ship due to backordered parts. I requested to cancel my order and he agreed to send a refund. It's now Sept and he has ignored numerous attempts to contact him for the refund, including a BBB complaint which he also ignored. He now has an "F" rating with the BBB. He's also ignored the MA state attorney generals office. I'll end up having to sue him for my money back.

This is troubling. I would like to build the Annapolis Wherry with the Piantedosi row wing. If there is some doubt as to whether or not I can get the row wing in a timely manner ... or even at all, then what are my options? Is there an alternative to this product?

An extremely fair question. Piantedosi has always had trouble keeping up with demand for his genuinely excellent unit. But this summer's lapse is beyond excuse. My understanding is that a takeover of Piantedosi, by responsible business-like adults, has been engineered and executed. Optimism is running very high here that fast turnarounds will resume shortly on sliding seat units. However, here at CLC we aren't comfortable designing boats around sliding seat units that Piantedosi has anything to do with, based on his past performance. (Especially with a tandem version of the Annapolis Wherry imminent.) We are pursuing vigorously designs of equal quality. Skilled oarsmen and engineers aren't going to wait for Gary to catch up on orders any more. Thus, no orphaned Annapolis Wherries.

I, too, was victimized by this person to the tune of about $940.00. Ordered a 'scout rig' early Aug 09 and paid w/debit card. Only time I could get this guy on the phone was prior to payment. No communication or delivery for more than one month and no response to multiple attempts at contact by phone and email. My bank was kind enough to reimburse me and referred this individual for further investigation. My first clue should have been the expired security certificate on his web order form uncovered by my browser. BEWARE PIANTEDOSI OARS

If it'll help anyone out, I have a Rowingrig with sliding riggers that I would be willing to sell. I ordered it when they first came out and it took so long to arrive that I had started another project when it did, and never returned to the shell.

I'm glad to hear that Piantedosi Oar has new management. I recently had to deal with them and after repeated inquiries and long delay I finally received my order. So it appears I was more fortunate than others. I have two row wings and two sets of oars and hope the company will be around longer for any parts I might need in the future. The new management may be wise to announce the change on their website. I have personally discouraged friends from dealing with them because of their past reputation

Yes, it's true. We've been getting calls from builders who ordered things from Piantedosi over the last 6-12 months who have had their money taken but received no product and no satisfaction at all.
We have a somewhat different relationship with his outfit than folks who order direct, but I can report grave dissatisfaction with his deliveries on sliding seat units. We're still waiting on about 30 of them.
We're working the issue vigorously.
