modifying cockpit size on hybrid night heron

I am thinking of buying a hybrid night heron and am concerned that as I have gotten older parts of me have gotten wider. As best I can measure it will be a close call. Reading Nicks strip built book it sounds as if enlarging the cockpit should not be to big a concern. In the summer, skimper clothing isnt the problem, my concern is in the colder weather with added layers is the 16" cockpit going to fit my padded butt.  Has anyone enlarger a strip built Night Heron cockpit and if so with what results?
