Ideas for glassing coaming and lip

I need help, I am ready to glass the deck, coaming and lip on my Great Auk. Should I just cut a couple of 3 inch pieces of glass and wet them into the outside of the coaming and lip THEN glass the deck?  I already have the coaming filleted. I'll have the pieces come out onto the deck a half inch or so

I think trying to glass the deck and everything else at once would be a mistake right?
