Inlay/Onlay backer material

When making a custom wood inlay or onlay what do you recommend using as a backer material to hold the pieces together when applying it to the deck of a Wood Duck 10 before glassing over it?  Would something like tracing or drafting paper be good or is there a material designed for this application out there somewhere?

Thanks for any help!

Matt

RE: Inlay/Onlay backer material

I would assemble the inlay very tightly using CA glue/accelerator to hold the puzzle pieces together, cover the top with blue tape, trim the tape around the perimeter then use that to trace the recess if you're doing an inlay.  Use Titebond III to glue the inlay in place.  Wait for it to cure, remove the tape and do light sanding on the inlay, then glass over as needed.  No backer needed.
