I am finishing up my skiff, and I am wondering how to make the transition from topside paint to bottom paint. For the top, I am using Marshall's Cove Marine Paint, and the bottom paint is Pettit Ultima ECO. The question is: do I butt the two paints together, or do I paint one under the other initially? Many people have said to put a boot stripe over that transition, but my boot stripe will be higher on the hull (clearly on the topside paint. 

The main concern with the idea of overlapping these paints is that there will be some sort of adhesion problem, or the solvents in the bottom paint will prove to be a problem on the topside paint. 

There must be a right way to do it.
