fiberglass showing through epoxy

im hoping someone can shed a little light on a problem i have.  after taking my hybrid boat out for the second time the fiberglass weave has begun to show through the epoxy finish. i dont if this is heat related but the boat was exposed to 115 degree heat over a three day trip. any help would be greatly appreciated. p.s. this is the third boat ive built. first one with this issue

RE: fiberglass showing through epoxy

Dan,

It's called "telegraphing the weave". The fact that it has an official name indicates how common it is.  Definitely heat related. If the air was 115, the boat was probably higher. It probably got too close to the heat deflection temperature and the combined existing and thermal stresses caused the  glass and epoxy to creep. The new relative positions made the weave more visible.

As far as I know it's a permanent feature now.

Laszlo
