filling the weave on the teardrop

i have applied the fiberglass and the first coat of epoxy to the shell of the teardrop camper.  the instructions say to apply a second coat, sand flat, and apply the final coat.  (then varnish of course).

should the second coat fill the weave?  if it doesn't, i assume i should add a third coat, then sand flat, and apply the final coat.

thanks

RE: filling the weave on the teardrop

I am not building a teardrop, but I think general fiberglass principles apply. You will fill the weave of the fiber glass with the 2nd and third coat of epoxy.  Do a light coat for each. I use a roller to apply.  I have found that you definitely won't need as much epoxy for the 2nd and 3rd as you used on the 1st. You don't want to overapply and get runs or bumps.  You can lightly sand between coats. Be careful to not over sand and go through the fiberglass on the last coat.
