As a software architect I'm very aware of the nature of designing as an excercise in choosing good compromises.  I cannot help but be impressed at the thoughtfulness and brilliant compromises that have resulted in the Southwester Dory.  It is a supremely elegant design for which John should be very proud.  I cannot see how any more capabilities and flexibility could have possibly been designed into a boat that size without ruining the whole thing.
