I would transition to paint just because of the sanding required to get a smooth finish with the graphite. When I do a graphite bottom I just roll it on and don't even tip it out to get a sort of orange peel finish. Graphite is messy enough to wet sand, I can't even imagine what dry sanding would be like.

   Is the graphite all "graphite" or is there a composite fabric like  aircraft parts...?

What George said, plus - If you sand graphite/epoxy smooth, it turns gray like pencil lead (which is a graphite/clay mixture).

Graphite powder mixed with epoxy. No fabric. applied after the fiberglass cloth, and fill coats. It forms a tough and slipery coating. My vote would be to transition, for the looks and weight savings. Good luck JRC

   Oh yeah graphite powder. I was thinking of carbon fiber.
