Check out John's comments on the thread titled "Dory Tiller Extension Rub On Rail--Ideas?"  I agree the different direction on port or stbd tack is initially confusing and instead of looking at it as one direction of the stick makes you turn up and the ofher makes you go down, but on the other tack it reverses...the easier way I am going to try is that one direction goes left and the other direction goes right regardless of which tack you are on.  Having the offset tiller allows seating in the rear plus....well, just see John's comments.
