I just finished the second coat of varnish, using Schooner varnish. First coat looked great. Wet sanded with 400grit paper. Next day I put on the second coat and when it dried the deck was full of tiny little pinholes. Not sure why this happened. Has anyone had this happen and how do I fix this and make sure it doesn't happen again.

I had a similar experience recently when varnishing (using Schooner varnish). The first coat was great, but when applying the second, with an expensive brush for varnish, many tiny bubbles would appear as I brushed it on. Not sure if this is the same as the pinholes you have. I solved my problem by purchasing a bunch of foam brushes, the ones where the wood dowel handle goes down into the foam. These cheap brushes were very good at applying the varnish. I got the idea from reading this fellow's article: http://www.clcboats.com/shoptips/boat-paint-varnish-finishing/varnished_kayak.html
I hope this is helpful
