Water Spots

Builders, I'm putting the finishing touches on a Night Heron kayak, BUT the other day after a decent rain storm, I opened the garage and a drop of water fell on the unglassed bow.  It has now left an ugle water mark which will look even worse when it is glassed and epoxied.  Does anyone have a trick for removing water stains?  Can I push it out with a good dose of denatured alcohol?  Any suggestions will be helpful.  Thanks

RE: Water Spots

I would first try heat to remove the moisture, http://www.howtocleanstuff.net/how-to-remove-water-stains-from-wood/ , since there are no chemicals or oils involved. If that does not work, then I would move to bleaching, http://www.ehow.com/way_5854622_way-water-stains-unfinished-wood.html . No matter which method you use, you will need to sand the raised grain.

I would also make a "tent" from plastic sheeting to cover the bare wood to keep dust and water off your project when you are not working on it. Keep the ends open to allow for air circulation.

RE: Water Spots

Good advice.  Thanks for the reply.
