How close to trim deck after glassing?

I'm building a Shearwater 14 Hybrid (my first boat, excuse the craftsmanship...) and there's a pretty solid deck overhanging the hull (maybe a 1/4 inch in some spots?) -- what is this detail of the boat supposed to look like? I'm at the sanding stage just prior to skin coating. Should I plane it back/smooth it out and if so how? Thoughts/reactions appreciated.  I've attempted to attach a photo. image of deck overhang

I had the same problem with the deck on my Merganser hybrid, which is a larger version of your Shearwater. A few minutes with a belt sander took care of it. If you have not had years of experience with a belt sander, though, use a plane. The sander can do a lot of damage in a flash. -Wes

It's supposed to overhang, so you can then trim it back flush. In some places mine was over by the width of a plank. I used a Japanese saw and a plane to get it flush. There are some pictures of this stage of my build at the bottom of page 1 on the Fyne boats site. https://forum.fyneboatkits.co.uk/viewtopic.php?id=151 Let's see more pics of your build!

Beaker beautiful boat. I love the fancy clamping and jigs. Good ideas for when I build my second...
