Minicel alternative, please

Hi,

I'm a brazilian happy constructor of a beautifull Chesapeake 17lt kayak. Now in the cockpit fitting step, and I'm stuck, searching for minicel foam. I guess this foam, with the name "minicel", is not available here.

Does anyone know another name for minicel? Would it be expanded or extruded polyethilen foam? Or is there an alternative?

Becouse of the blocks sizes, international shippings costs are too high.

Thanks in advance

Fernando Mattos

Have you tried searching for "closed-cell foam"? -Wes

RE: Minicel alternative, please

You can build a seat using layers of EVA. If I remember correctly, there are instructions/template for this type of seat in th plans and book. Not carved as such, built up in layers.

EVA is used for things like tracton pads, camping foam, gym mats, etc. it comes in various densities of which some would be no good. Eg th yoga mats are low density and absorb water. I have used a gym tile before.

something like this
