I had the same question and the response from CLC was that the distance back from the nose is the same. The long pads simply extend further back than the short ones. In reality however you can put them wherever you want. I moved mine up 2-3 inches or so cause I thought it looked better and worked best my the size of the material I had cut out for the front and back.
