I'm interested in what folks have to say about more or less free board, pros and cons, experiences, etc., in how this relates to different kayak designs and handling characteristics.

RE a kayak I think freeboard is a no call. Kayaks are low and wet. Get used to it. Course you should pick a kayak design that matches your true weight w/gear. But a high side kayak would be annoying in acrosswind.
