Wood Duck 12-glassing fillets and inner hull?

Building my first kayak, aWD12 and have a question directed to Laszlo...since I have decided to glass the inside of the hull, do I need to glass the fillets also?

RE: Wood Duck 12-glassing fillets and inner hull?

Dan,

Don't know if you need to (never did a full engineering analysis), but I did on mine. Basically, I built the hull and deck according to the manual, then added a layer of 4 oz glass on the inside of each before I joined them together.

I suppose that if the interior glass is of the same type (woven or  biax) and and at least the same weight as the tape you could skip the tape. I think, though, it might be easier to get really good results on the seams to break it into 2 tasks - seams and interior glass. That way you'd be limiting how much you're trying to get done at a time and not have the pressure of all your seams kicking at once, etc.

Have fun however you go,

Laszlo
