Re: epoxy concerns

Clamping too tightly isn't as common as improper mixing, moving things before FULL cure, forgetting to use thickeners when needed, not familiar with cure rates for slow cure epoxy "it's been 24hrs and it's STILL soft!".

The problems with glueing scarfs that I've seen are uneven clamping, unthickened epoxy, ramping the scarfs up onto each other resulting in a thicker joint then sanding through the outer veneer before glassing. With uneven clamping and unthickened epoxy the two panels will naturally make a hollow down the middle. That's why building on a table is worthwhile or making sure there's absolutely nothing under the joints on the concrete floor.
