Steve,

The reason I was asking about experience is that paddling technique counts, too. If the "slower" boat tracks better than the "faster" one, it will actually go faster for an inexperienced paddler who doesn't have their stroke down quite right because it won't be fishtailing as much as the "faster" boat.

Based on what you and George are saying, I wonder if a bit of that may not have been happening when you tried the Pax. That boat should really scream along.
