Do test patches with various solvents (acetone usually works really well to remove adhesive goop, but will remove some paints and many varnishes too or at least de-gloss them). Not sure about Brightsides specifically. That orange-peel based goo remover is fairly safe and effective. You can try using more tape to help pull the glue off.

Brightside does take awhile to harden completely - if the gunk doesn't affect your on-going work, leave it for a week or so, then try again... .
