4 mil polyethylene dropcloth material (available at the home despot & other DIY hardware stores) makes for a smoother job than Saran wrap, reduces ridges by quite a bit.

That cures the symptom. The actual problem is attempting to make the glass exceed its bend radius. That is, the point is too sharp for the glass to lay flat. It needs to be blunter if the glass is to lay flat. Sanding the point so that it is no sharper than the curve of a nickel should make the problem go away.
