Payload under paddle can be different than payload under sail. Most small boat designs have a measure called "ppi". How much weight it takes to reduce freeboard 1". Sailing load has to do with performance in various conditions. In small monohulls too much weight will torpedo the ability to get from tack to tack. If you can't tack you'll be late for supper. Multihulls are different so the above may not apply.
